Principal Process Engineer
Axiom is looking for an experienced Principal Process Engineer to lead the design and scale-up of modular synthetic fuel plants.
This is a rare opportunity to take complete ownership of process engineering across first-of-a-kind clean-energy technology, progressing from novel architecture through to construction, commissioning and deployment at multi-megawatt scale.
The Company
Our client is a well-funded, vertically integrated clean-energy company developing synthetic fuels for industries that cannot easily be electrified.
Its technology combines direct air capture, hydrogen production and chemical processing to create a practical alternative to fossil fuels. With its technology already proven at pilot scale, the business is now entering a major phase of industrial expansion.
You will join a highly technical, engineering-led team where decisions are made quickly, hierarchy is minimal and experienced engineers are trusted to own complete systems.
Responsibilities
- Own process engineering across reactor, electrolyser and direct air capture systems.
- Lead projects from concept design through construction, commissioning and deployment.
- Develop process architectures optimised for cost, safety and scalability.
- Lead HAZOPs, hazard assessments and FMEAs.
- Produce P&IDs, process simulations, mass balances and energy balances.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- 10–15 years of process engineering experience.
- Proven experience designing, building and commissioning large-scale process plants.
- Background in hydrogen, energy, petrochemicals, industrial gases or chemical processing.
- Strong expertise in process safety, HAZOP, FMEA and hazard assessments.
- Advanced skills in P&IDs, process simulation, and mass and energy balances.
- A commercially minded, creative engineer ready to own complex projects in a fast-moving environment.
- Competitive base salary, with flexibility for exceptional candidates.
- Significant early-stage equity and long-term growth potential.
- £6,000 annual location allowance.
- Visa sponsorship and extensive relocation support for international candidates.
- Full lifecycle ownership, from architecture and safety to manufacturing and field deployment.
- Freedom to challenge assumptions and create systems optimised for cost, reliability and large-scale production
- Clear progression into broader technical leadership and departmental ownership.
